BOARDING COLLEGE BACKGROUND

C T Y International School, the Primary arm of C T Y Group of Schools pioneered combination of conventional education with Qur’an memorization in the Western part of Nigeria. To get a secondary school to consolidate on the achievements of graduates of the school became a challenge. Thus the need became imperative to commence a secondary school that would consolidate on the gains of the Primary school. Consequently the Boarding College arm of the School started in 2005 at 52, New State Hospital Road, off Ring Road, Ibadan, sharing the same building with the Primary school. A plan to move the Boarding College arm to its site four years later was short circuited to three years as the population of the school had soared beyond projection. Alhamdulillah the school was able to live up to the expectation of its customers and hence pressure had continued to mount yearly to create room for more students. Why A Purely Boarding School? The concept of a purely Boarding College came as a response to societal challenges confronting our young ones in their formative years. It is believed that to wean the young ones from these negative influences at this important stage of their lives, a major step would be a form of segregation from the corruptive influences of the larger society. Though not without some hitches, the goal is being largely attained as the moral standard of the students’ tower above those of their peers in other schools. However, the dream of having them completely memorize the Qur’an before graduating from the school was not achieved. Consequently, schools running similar programmes up North as well as at Abuja were visited to tap from their experiences. This led to the initiation of a special Qur’an memorization programme. The Pilot Qur’an Programme. The Pilot Qur’an programme of the school is a unique programme designed for its participants to complete the memorization of the Qur’an in the course of their sojourn in the school. To qualify to join the programme, a prospective student is required to have perfected the reading of the Qur’an with tejwid and must be well above average academically. Consequently, majority of its participants since inception in year ……. were mainly students of C T Y International School, the Primary arm of the Schools. Alhamdulillah this has been yielding desired results. Precisely at the end of each session since year 2013, we have cause to celebrate hafiz graduates till date. The school has represented Oyo State in several competitions, winning laurels in various categories. More so, the O’Level results of the school have been outstanding over the years.
Consequently till date to the glory of Allah, in the area of academic excellence, religious and moral uprightness, the school remains primus inter pares. Challenges The major challenge confronting the Boarding College is the acquisition of its site alongside a wide expanse of land by the government of Oyo state for its planned free trade zone. While the school authority is striving for inclusion in the zone, the decision of the government has constrained her in pursuing the implementation of its master plan for the school, thereby limiting intakes into the school. While inclusion in the trade zone is being pursued, the school authority is also working on an alternative plan. Another challenge facing the school is the non sharing of its vision by some parents on religious upbringing of the students. This however, is being tackled without ruffling feathers.
